The high desert to the rainy coast.
Oregon has a fascinating geography with a terrible climate. The western third is stunning forest, mountains and coast with overcast skies the majority of the year. The rest of the state is unremarkable plains, mostly, with a few spectacular mountain ranges.
I did a weeklong roadtrip here after meeting friends in Portland. I camped alone in the Wallowa Mountains, surely one of the prettiest mountain ranges in the US, despite being mostly unheard of. The mosquitos in these mountains were some of the worst I've seen (almost as bad as the Bahamas), but the beauty is unparalleled.
